Although she was saved from drowning, she ends up developing hydrophobia, especially for cold water. She is an only child with a tormented past, due to her belief that she was abandoned by her father as a teenager, resulting in her attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the Han River. However, after she meets the god of the Land of the Sky, Bi-ryeom, ( Gong Myung), the goddess of the Land of Water, Mu-ra ( Krystal), and the demigod Hu-ye ( Lim Ju-hwan), she decides to aid him in his quest.Ī neuropsychiatrist with her own practice, who is currently struggling and swamped with debt. Because she doesn't believe he's a god and mistakes him for suffering from a mental illness, she initially resists him. Hopefully, we will see some improvement very soon. When the god of the Land of Water, Lord Ha-baek ( Nam Joo-hyuk) visits earth to retrieve the sacred stones needed for him to claim the throne of the Divine Realm, he seeks out the help of neuropsychiatrist So-ah ( Shin Se-Kyung), the only remaining descendant from a middle-class family fated to serve him for generations. Even if the start is supposed to be slow, I feel like good actors should be able to dampen this kind of feeling for the audience. The other characters haven’t appeared yet, which is typical of a new drama, but seriously. Perhaps, all the twists and turns in ‘Circle’ spoiled me, but ‘Habaek’s’ start was seriously slow. I’m not completely convinced about this drama because the acting thus far from the leads aren’t spectacular, but also because the first couple of episodes were way too slow and really fell short of my expectations. I haven’t read them of course, because I wanted to share my own thoughts just as they are, but I guess it’s not just me. I guess it’s not just me, because as I was finding the Wikipedia page for this drama, I saw a search hit come up about this drama getting high ratings for the first couple of episodes, but also mixed reviews. I didn’t really get that from Shin Sekyung or Nam Joohyuk - to me they were just delivering dialogue, expressions, and actions - not quite the true weight of the characters’ souls. I don’t know - I feel like acting should forge a emotional/mental connection between the audience and the scene as the drama episode unfolds. The last time I saw Lim Juhwan was in ‘Uncontrollably Fond,’ but I definitely remember him more for his creepiness in ‘Oh My Ghostess.’ His performance was a bit more convincing to me in the first couple of episodes, even though he hasn’t done much. He’s not bad, but I have to say that his character is pretty similar again, but this time wayyyyyy more haughty - since he’s a god. I didn’t watch ‘Weighlifting Fairy,’ so I actually haven’t seen Nam Joohyuk since School 2015.
I wouldn’t say she sucks at acting, but there’s nothing really new that she’s bring to the table - at least this is what I’m seeing in the first couple of episodes.Īt two episodes in, we have been introduced to Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung), Habaek (Nam Joohyuk), and Hu Ye (Lim Juhwan).
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Shin Sekyung on screen, but I feel like she’s playing her typical character again. I thin the only reason why I didn’t just sleep was because I was hoping something would happen. After pulling off ‘Circle” well enough, I can’t say that I had no expectations for yet another fantasy drama from tVN, especially since ‘Habaek’ has inherited the time slot from ‘Circle.’ I can’t say I’m not intrigued at all, but seriously, the first two episodes nearly put me to sleep. Things get even more strange, however, when the wind god Bi Ryum ( Gong Myung), the water goddess Mu Ra ( Krystal), and a hotel CEO/demi-god Hu Ye ( Lim Ju-hwan) show up to complicate things. The problem is that she has no belief in the gods and initially mistakes him for suffering from delusions. The Bride of Habaek When the narcissistic water god Ha Baek ( Nam Joo-hyuk) visits earth in order to find a stone powerful enough to help him claim his throne, he seeks out the help of his servant and destined bride, psychiatrist So-ah ( Shin Se-kyung), whose family is fated to serve the water god for generations.
